Bright Light Projects Graduates 15 in Digital Skills Initiative

Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone (BLPSL), in collaboration with Youth Action for Sustainable Development Sierra Leone (YAD-SL), recently celebrated the graduation of 15 participants from its Free Basic Computer Skills Training Program. The certificate presentation ceremony for the April–May 2026 initiative took place on June 23, 2026, at the Bright Light Projects office in Makeni. All 15 participants fulfilled the rigorous graduation requirements for the program, marking a significant milestone in their digital literacy journey. The graduating class consisted of 11 men and four women who successfully completed the full digital skills training. This event shows the commitment of both organizations to fostering digital inclusion and empowerment within the community.

Training Program Details and Curriculum

The intensive training initiative spanned one month, instructing participants in a full range of essential digital competencies. The April–May cohort initially enrolled 20 individuals, demonstrating a high level of interest and demand for such skills. Of these, 17 participants successfully completed the entire program, culminating in 15 who met all criteria for graduation. The strong course content included in-depth instruction in core Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Publisher. Beyond these foundational software skills, participants also received key training in internet browsing, effective email applications, and other fundamental digital literacy competencies vital for navigating today's increasingly digital world. This holistic approach ensures participants gain practical, applicable skills.

Broader Initiative and Impact

The program is meticulously designed to achieve several critical objectives: to enhance participants' academic performance, improve their employment prospects in a competitive job market, strengthen their entrepreneurial capacity to foster self-sufficiency, and provide invaluable opportunities for lifelong learning. This impactful initiative forms a cornerstone of Digital Futures Sierra Leone, which Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone proudly describes as its flagship digital inclusion program. Digital Futures Sierra Leone plays a key role in supporting broader national efforts to significantly improve digital literacy across the country. The initiative contributes directly to the implementation of Sierra Leone’s National Digital Learning Strategy (2025–2030), aligning local efforts with national development goals.

Voices from the Program and Precedent

The recent graduation ceremony, held on June 23, 2026, marked another success for the Digital Futures Sierra Leone (DFSL) initiative. This program is instrumental in contributing to the implementation of Sierra Leone’s National Digital Learning Strategy (2025–2030), showcasing its strategic importance. Prior to this, Bright Light Projects conducted an inaugural Free Basic Computer Skills Training Program in Kamabai, Bombali District, in 2025. This history of successful implementation demonstrates Bright Light Projects' proven capability in delivering effective digital literacy programs.
